active equity efforts:

Giving Back & Alignment with our Value Pillars

  • We want Bairn Employees to have confidence in their salaries. To help reinforce fairness and consistency in our management, a diverse team reviews annual performance ratings to ensure equity across all demographics at Bairn. In addition, Bairn has an ongoing partnership with an expert third party to perform comprehensive pay equity reviews. This process uses a variety of checks to evaluate whether compensation and promotion outcomes for women and underrepresented minorities are equitable when compared to all Bairn Employees.

Based on the results of these evaluations, we feel confident that there are no statistically significant differences in pay or promotions for people in those groups. We also hold honesty and community at the core of our foundation, and welcome conversations if any of our team members experience inequity or discrimination so that we may better understand one another and grow better together.

  • Bairn offers a 10% discount across all products and services for high school and college students. As our company was founded by 4 students during their studies, we hope to make equipment and services more accessible for developing filmmakers.

For those who learning outside of traditional educational institutes, we offer the same 10% discount.

  • Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States operating a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries, and community-based organizations. We would like to join their effort to end food insecurity by providing food and support to millions of people in our local communities. In this effort, we created Bairn Bites, our 3-Minute, Weekly Newsletter on Positive News, Personal Growth, and Health/Wellness. We donate 1 Meal to Feeding America per new subscriber!

  • We seek to create movies today that would maintain their authenticity and values for years to come. As a parent sits down to watch a film with their child, we hope they can resonate with the same characters over time as that child grows older and for generations to come.

Ensuring that the characters in our movies are diverse, dynamic, and true to life is not only crucial for representation but also essential to constructing cinematic worlds that remain relevant in the long run. In 2022, we introduced a range of new characters and stories inspired by communities worldwide. To ensure their accuracy, inclusivity, and cultural authenticity, we collaborate closely with external experts, research and innovation groups (RIGs), and international teams who oversee the creative choices.

For every new character we develop, we engage our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Content Strike Team. This team comprises D&I experts, regional film industry professionals, and members of RIG to evaluate the character's design, narrative, and artistic direction. This approach has been instrumental in bringing forth more characters from diverse communities across the globe, particularly those that have been underrepresented in movies and entertainment.

  • In outfitting our team for each shoot, we consider both technical skill as well as creative perspective. Not just “can you strike the light?” but also “how do you see the light?” Creative perspective comes from personal life experiences that can come from one’s gender, race, nationality, or any pillar of identity. It is unique to every person, and we believe drawing from many creative perspectives for a project allows us to create a wholesome vision aligning with many creative perspectives. This allows us to reflect the diverse and creative world we live in through all parts of our projects.

  • Accountability is a foundation pillar to our structure. It allows us to both create positive change and a safe space to address problems that may arise. We focus on “us vs. the problem” and not “us vs. each other.” To be able to grow alongside one another means we must be vulnerable and honest.

  • A part to the creative industry is burnout. It’s natural, and we’ve experienced it ourselves as well, however we believe that there can be a way to make a creative living without needing to compromise rest and health. This is exemplified through our internal team’s 30-hour work week schedule used to balance time working and time off, as both are essential to creating our best work.

  • Community is foundational to Bairn, and we wouldn’t be here without those we surround ourselves with. Investing in the community not only looks like donating to organizations we align with, but also creating greater accessibility and support for those who need it. Supporting community based organizations such as the Asian Student Alliance and Sol Underground allows us to grow with the communities and with ourselves.
