our HISTORY

From humble beginnings as a basement film studio to a home in the entertainment industry today, we proudly continue a legacy of creating world-class stories and touching, memorable experiences for every member of the family across the world.

Phase 1:

2017

Bairn was founded by Evans Nguyen, Cameron Brasher, Brandon Runkel, and Thomas Nguyen. Four young men with two cameras and a dream. We founded this company with the goal to create a documentary series touching on youthful optimism. Our goal was to develop the storytelling & technical skills to create heartfelt and positively impactful project for people of all ages.

2019

We continued to struggle with direction, school-work-life balance, and eventually burnt out. Brandon & Cameron went upon their own paths. Evans & Thomas paused Bairn and school for many months to rest, heal, and learn from this difficult experience.

2018

On our journey to learn basic filmmaking, we picked up all kinds of work: weddings, graduation pictures, music videos, automotive promos, and more. We valued these learning experiences however we struggled with organization, setting healthy expectations and defining our leadership approach. These short-comings weighed heavily on us as the Bairn team also started film studies in college.

Phase 2:

2020

We regrouped in the second half of this year to redefine what our foundational purpose and values are. We began identifying solutions for the issues that caused our first operation to fail. Instead of blindly pursuing work, our focus shifted to:

  • Defining Our New Mission

  • Defining Our Organization’s Niche

  • Process Management

  • Financial Planning

  • Setting Heathy/Achievable Boundaries & Expectations for Self & Team

  • Defining a Strong, Meaningful Work Culture & Leadership Style

  • Personal Health: Meditation, Sleep, Diet, Exercise

2021

We chose narrative film as our scope of work. In the fall of this year, we obtained our first cinema camera, support equipment, and began to work on small independent projects. In addition to this these projects, we began to release “Bairn Sessions”, an original, short-form documentary series highlighting local artists and their stories.

2022

We continue to develop a greater understanding of our vision and identity alongside a new department, our rental house. One cinema camera became two, and our grip/lighting inventories expanded. We began to create more meaningful relationships within the industry working with recognized brands such as Kroger, Tilta, Mercedes Benz Stadium, and more. Our community of optimistic and visionary creatives grew further.

2023

Bairn becomes a recognized local rental house, with a growing & respectable inventory. We gain more productions under our belt, a deeper understanding to who we are, and how we would like to impact the world.
